What is the meaning of CBD?

CBD stands for Cannabidiol. It is a constituent of the hemp plant, part of the Cannabis sativa L family. CBD is an acronym that was foreign to most 5 years ago. Over the last few years, it has risen to be one of the most popular buzzwords in wellness and beauty today. Why is that? Well, CBD has an immense amount of proven medicinal properties and benefits that allows us to maximize optimal health and wellbeing. The popularity of CBD products in the marketplace has stripped away the negative stigma around using cannabis. CBD is the non-psychoactive constituent in the plant and it has powerful healing, calming, and regenerating benefits.

What Is CBD?

An article from Harvard Medical School in 2020 states that CBD is the most active ingredient in cannabis, next to THC. When used topically or internally in any form, it contains 0% to 0.3% of THC. This means you will not experience any psychoactive effects or an altered state of mind from using CBD oil. However, taking CBD oil can produce a calm and relaxed state within the body, and help regulate anxiety, sleep, inflammation, pain and protect the nervous system.

About The Endocannabinoid System

Whether or not you view hemp plants as a resource or medicine, we cannot deny our biological connection to CBD. The endocannabinoid system is a system within our body that produces chemicals similar to the cannabis plant called endocannabinoids. Endocannabinoid receptors live all throughout our bodies including our spinal cord, brain, nervous system, and in our bloodstream. CBD is believed to interact with CB1 and CB2 receptors in the body. Octagon Lab’s CBD expert Thomas Delauer, explains that CBD stimulates our endocannabinoid system allowing the body to naturally create more endocannabinoids, essentially making us feel good. Our biological makeup already provides the endocannabinoids within that system, but CBD works to guide and boost those processes.

The main function of this system is to bring balance to our entire being much like an adaptogen, also known as homeostasis. When we experience homeostasis, we experience maximum health because our internal systems are generally balanced and synchronized. Some ailments can even be worsened by a disturbance, or imbalance, in the endocannabinoid system. Thus, making a CBD oil an excellent natural solution for balance.

CBD Oil Benefits

CBD is popular for many reasons, but one of its greatest superpowers is its ability to treat a vast range of symptoms and ailments. CBD is a great natural remedy and has notably fewer side effects than most prescriptions and drugstore solutions. By taking CBD oil, you may experience improvements in a wide range of areas including but not limited to:

CBD Effects

  • Anti-inflammatory

  • Pain relief

  • Regulated sleep patterns

  • Muscle relaxation

  • Regulated appetite

  • Anxiety relief

  • Depression relief

  • Protects overall nervous system

  • Decrease nausea

  • Anti-seizure

  • Anti-tumor

  • Stimulated circulatory system and heart health

  • Lowered blood pressure

Why Try CBD Oil?

As stated by Highland Pharms, a study administered in 2012 showed that people who experience chronic pain and inflammation felt relief without a tolerance build up within the body. Those who suffer from chronic pains or illness may consider exploring CBD oil as an alternative to conventional medications. Without tolerance build-up, you may not have to deal with ongoing trials of different pharmaceuticals that, as previously mentioned, typically come with toxic side effects and symptoms.

CBD For Sleep

CBD taken before bed can provide a deep, calming sleep, and help with mood and stress. This is personally one of my favorite effects of CBD. Its calming properties are wonderful and can be very helpful for some people, especially if the insomnia is pain or anxiety related.

CBD For Anxiety

CBD has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety in studies. In the studies, it reduced both the behavioral and physiological symptoms of anxiety such as heart rate and breathing. The cause of chronic anxiety is trauma, often from childhood or traumatic events in the past. CBD may be a good ally while healing trauma, with therapies such as effective therapies such as Somatic Experiencing. I personally recommend the work of Irene Lyon as the most effective trauma healing modality. CBD could possibly be an aid while in the challenges of healing process.

Topical CBD

How Do CBD Topicals Work?

Let’s talk about why CBD works so well as a topical. CBD School states that when applying a CBD to the skin, our skin barrier will soak up and distribute any nutrients from the formulation. CBD MD explains that when absorbed topically, the CBD molecules allow our skin cells to create a sebaceous gland that produces a special sebum. The sebum is an oily fluid that works to keep the skin barrier strong and supple. Also once absorbed, the CBD receptors that we naturally carry in our body become stimulated and functions of pain-relief are heightened.

CBD For Pain

One reason to use CBD topically, is its ability to concentrate on which muscles, joints, or regions of the body that need relief. Highland Pharms concluded that CBD oil can ease pain from fibromyalgia, back aches, chronic pains, and potentially arthritis- combating even the most stubborn conditions.

CBD Oil For Skin

I love to use CBD topically for its skin healing and anti-aging properties. CBD is wonderful for skin inflammation, a plethora of skin conditions, and it has a high amount of antioxidants to fight free radicals. CBD can prevent and treat wrinkles and can reduce problematic skin concerns such as acne, eczema, rosacea, psoriasis, and more.

CBD Skin Benefits

Research completed by Highland Pharms explains that CBD balances the amounts of pro-acne agents within our cells. With regular use, you may be left with a youthful glow as your skin heals and repairs. CBD has soothing properties can be effective for all skin types, especially sensitive or irritated skin.

CBD Skin Care

I personally have experienced the powerful healing and rejuvenating effects of topical CBD and was so impressed, I had to formulate some special Elaa CBD skin care treasures. You may enjoy cherishing your skin with Elaa’s nourishing and restorative Blue Dream Night Nectar. This night time balm will calm your senses and prepare you for a peaceful, deep rest. It is made with CBD, superfoods, herbs and incredible oils to restore and nourish. When using Blue Dream regularly, you may see improved texture and tone of skin, as the CBD combined with herbal allies work to produce collagen and cell renewal. The Blue Dream Night Nectar is an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant powerhouse that will send you into a blissful state of tranquility.

CBD Bath Bombs are popular these days, but I personally prefer bath soaks and bath salts, not only for they healing properties, but because they are clear of the binding agents in bath bombs. So, I combined them together into a truly magical product, Blue Dream Bath Soak. This luxurious bath soak is a sensual experience, both restoring and relaxing. Blue Dream was created to seduce your senses with a beautiful aroma, color, and texture, and to soothe your nervous system, your muscles, and your skin as you soak.
